Das Projekt AUS DEM STEGREIF KOMPONIEREN spürt den Wurzeln der Improvisation nach, die im Schatten der Überlieferung steht. Zusammen mit dem Publikum begeben wir uns in eine ferne Klangwelt, die längst vergessen schlummert. Eine magische und mystische Parallelwelt, die zu leuchten beginnt, wenn wir in die Handschriften vergangener Zeiten eintauchen und die Musik durch das wiedergefundene Wissen neu zu existieren beginnt.

Das Programm stellt die Improvisationstechniken aus dem vatika-nischen Organum Traktat, einer mittelalterlichen Improvisations-schule zur Zeit der Notre-Dame-Epoche vor. Wie die Scholaren des 13. Jahrhunderts lassen wir uns von den Regeln und Beispielen einer anleiten, über gregorianische Melodien zu improvisieren. Diese Technik nennt man Organum-Singen und sie führt uns bis zu den großartigen Organa des Magister Perotinus.

The lost art of improvisation

The starting point for our project is the improvisational art of organum singing. Based on our study of the art of improvised polyphony as taught in the 9th century in the Musica enchiriadis, we are turning to the Vatican Organum Treatise (VO) in a new context. This is a comprehensive 13th-century treatise on polyphonic improvisation and opens a path to a long-silenced era. Behind the art of improvisation lies a vast, virtuoso, shadowy repertoire. We understand our approach as a cautiously approaching retrospective. In keeping with our motto "The Lost Art of Improvisation," we are rethinking our listening habits and attempting to discover a path from the origins to a sonic diversity that can only be guessed at today. In this context, our ensemble PER-SONAT has set itself the goal of studying the VO treatise and presenting it to an interested audience.
